Update on our New Spiritual Director/Senior Minister – April 15, 2024

We are delighted to let you know Spirit’s hand is apparent in all the details required to bring Rev. John DePalma, our new Spiritual Director/Senior Minister, and his wife Rev. Cath, home to Kelowna.

Negotiations on Rev. John’s Letter of Call (contract) have flowed with ease and grace as agreement between Rev. John, our Board of Trustees has been reached.

We have a wonderful immigration consultant who has met with our leadership and the DePalma’s, helping us create a seamless welcome to Kelowna.

Judge with Gentle Judgment

Irene Kowalchuk, RScP

“One, alone in consciousness with the Infinite, constitutes a complete majority.  Knowing this in your own thought, work in perfect peace and calm.”

– Ernest Holmes, The Science of Mind

How are we viewing the world today?  What keeps us moving in the right direction when we see strife, disharmony, and fear?

Irene will discuss the effects of our thought in relation to today’s worldly events.

Irene is our longest-service Practitioner at CSL Kelowna, hence the sacred designation of RScP (Religious Science Practitioner).

Through years of study and dedication to the art and practices of Science of Mind, Irene is a shining light who serves our Centre in consciousness and dedicated service.

MORE ON THIS MONTH’S THEME: GIANT GENTLENESS

"If we look for a God of love, we must look long and deeply into each other. We must look away from differences until we penetrate into the Unity of the Whole. Love alone reveals love. Hate but hides the gleam."

- Ernest Holmes

We are probably living in the most divisive time in human history; at least it feels that way for many. What we resist not only persists, but will grow in size (Jung). How do we best support ourselves when we are inundated with media bias and more polarized opinions than ever before?

Fundamental to Science of Mind is Love, which is another name for the Divine. Love is the very essence of gentleness and is where our true power abides. Fostering love in the areas of community, social media and politics creates breathing room and offers us new perspective.

Let love support us as we navigate our lives, adding goodness to create a world that works for all.

Last Sunday’s Talk

A Gentle Reminder

With Rev. Melody Bailey

"When we let the love that is within us go out to the God who is in all people … then we are loving God with all our heart and with all our soul and mind, because we are recognizing that the Spirit within us is the same Spirit that we meet in others.  This is loving our neighbors as ourselves."

~ Ernest Holmes

Last Sunday, Rev. Melody Bailey gave us a reminder to be gentle, not only with ourselves, but gentle with others, whether interacting with them or even thinking about them.

Holding others in love, trusting they’re doing the best they can with what they have, opens us up to understanding and compassion and a better experience of life.

Member Spotlight: Maria Cano

Maria Cano’s lucky number just might be seven.  She came to Canada from the Philippines seven years ago, and she has been coming to CSL Kelowna for seven years!

Maria heard about our community through her partner, who sent her a link about our services.  She showed up to a Wednesday Night Faith Lift and was immediately struck by the “good vibes.”

Maria joins us virtually since her move to another city, and we’re always so happy when she’s able to come and be with us in person.

Maria says that the community is great and feels that the positive energy of the people inspires her.  She says that despite being from another country, the Kelowna spiritual family is very welcoming.

When we meet people like Maria, it feels like we’re the lucky ones!

Holmes History: Part 6

The life and times of the founder of Science of Mind

In Part 5 we learned about how Ernest Holmes’ teaching influenced luminaries of the day. This week we look at the technique of spiritual mind treatment.

Perhaps Ernest Holmes’ greatest contribution to the world was the technique of scientific prayer, which he called “spiritual mind treatment.”

Once, when asked to provide a concise definition of the Science of Mind teaching, he replied that it is a “correlation of laws of science, opinions of philosophy, and revelations of religion applied to human needs and aspirations.”

Treatment is a five-step process of affirmative and scientific prayer.  Treatment is a process and method used to realign our thought with our Truth.  Treatment is clearing the thought of negation, of doubt and fear, and causing it to perceive the Truth of the ever-presence of God or Spirit Indwelling that is never separate from us.

I. RECOGNITION (GOD IS) | Recognize God as the ultimate, limitless Presence and Power in the universe. God is all there is.

II. UNIFICATION (I AM) | After recognizing God as the ultimate Presence and Power in and through everything, you now accept that you and God are one. You know God acts through you, as you, in you, and in all life. I am one with God, now.

III. DECLARATION/REALIZATION (I ACCEPT; I AFFIRM) | Already knowing that you are part of God, you realize without doubt or reservation that the good you desire to experience is now taking form through God’s Power. I know my desire is complete and I accept.

IV. THANKSGIVING / ACCEPTANCE (I GIVE THANKS) | Having clearly stated and affirmed what you want to experience, you thankfully accept that the good you desire is yours right now. I accept and give thanks for this good right here and now.

V. RELEASE (I LET GO and LET GOD) | After thankfully accepting your good as already accomplished, you release your prayer to the activity of the Universal Law of Mind, completely freeing yourself of concern. I let go and let God. I release this truth in total belief that it is done.

At the end of every Spiritual Mind Treatment, we say the words “And so it is.” These words let us release our treatment out of our hands with total conviction that we BELIEVE and KNOW that what we desire is already done through the Power of God.
