THE BEST IS YET TO COME! Rev. John DePalma was officially installed as CSL Kelowna’s new Spiritual Director at a Gala celebration on Friday, October 18. This was followed by a Sunday talk delivered by Rev. Dr. Bob Deen who told us it’s time to “Ready, Set, Go!” So, here we are heading into a new era, and Rev. Barbara Samuel will kick it off with next Sunday’s talk about The Power of Joy!

Sunday, October 27, 10: 30 – 11:30

THE POWER OF JOY

Soul Food Sunday with Rev. Barbara Samuel

Joy is a clue...let’s follow it together and see where it leads!

Last week, Rev. Dr. Bob Deen planted a seed in my heart. Ready...Set...Go!!!  This talk sparked joy in me.  It got me to thinking and I started to ask myself the question:

“Is there an experience more desirable than that of joy?

I think not!

I see joy daily in my grandchildren and young vocal students.  But they’re children.  Is it easier for them?  Is it natural for them? Do they know something I don’t know?  Is the secret to personal power standing right in front of me?

I grew up a happy kid but because of circumstances, I became kind of a cynical kid. It wasn’t until adulthood that I discovered the ability for simple joy to help me find my power in otherwise powerless situations.

I discovered that I could gain power when I bring joy intentionally into my life.

Are you aware that people respond to those around them? This is how we can use this power to affect others emotionally as well as to be affected. But this isn’t the only way the power of joy comes to us.

Yes, it can follow you when you inject an attitude of joy and optimism into the group around you. Yes, you can provide others the opportunity to be infected with your positive outlook and the chain reaction is that positive infection that reaches even more people.

This ability to infect and affect others works for good and bad – So the question is, what do you want to be coming back at you from those you impact?

Choose wisely.  Of course!  MORE JOY!  “Ready! Set! Go!” reminded me what goes around, comes around.  But there’s more to the positive attitude of power than even that.

The feeling of joy is a clue that you’re doing something – surrounded by something – sharing something that lights up your soul. If you treat it like a clue and follow the clues, your joy will lead you to places that bring you even more joy.

Join me Sunday for a Soul Food Sunday “The Power of Joy”.  See you then!

Join us at Studio 9 (1180 Houghton Rd, Kelowna, BC V1X 2C9). Doors open at 10:15am. Enter the property by the side entrance behind the staff parking lot. Look for our signs to guide you! Please use street parking or park at Ben Lee Park (1.5 blocks away).

Last Sunday's Talk

READY, SET, GO.... POWER TOGETHER

Rev. Dr. Bob Deen

What a treat last Sunday to have the Rev. Dr. Bob Deen give the inspirational message. And what a message it was! He let us know that our Centre has already passed the “Ready” and “Set” stage… it’s time for us to “Go! Go! Go!”

Monday Night Book Study Continues

With Rev. John DePalma

Monday, October, 6:30-8:00 pm

Monday Nights with Rev. John: Book Study of “Creating the Beloved Community” continues October 28, 6:30-8:00 via Zoom.

Creating the Beloved Community… Update!

Despite some technical challenges, we had a great meeting Monday night again with lively discussion about what it’s going to take to create the Beloved Community!

Dipping our toes into “Spiral Dynamics”- a model and map of the evolution of consciousness, has brought great insight into what’s happening not just in our community but the entire world!

Next Monday (week 8) we’ll be continuing into Chapter 5 “The Spiral and Community”

"There is almost a sensual longing for communion with others who have a large vision. The immense fulfillment of the friendship between those engaged in furthering the evolution of consciousness has a quality impossible to describe.”

~ Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, S.J.

Here, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin speaks to the critical importance of spiritual community in our life. He saw it as a place to be called forward into a great vision - a place where our inner genius and love is allowed, even encouraged, to emerge.

This can occur at any level on the spiral, however, where multiple levels are present in the same community, one is better off knowing about cultural evolution and the large role that it plays in human dynamics if one’s aim is

to facilitate such a harmonious community.

The evolution of consciousness has brought us to this point but to evolve further we must develop the willingness to go deeper and develop awareness of the impact on our community.

Everyone is welcome to join in what promises to be an interesting conversation about the map and path moving forward! I invite and encourage you to read the introduction and Chapters 1 through Chapter 5 to get a sense of what’s possible in the Beloved Community, so you can be fully engaged.

When logging in make sure your name and video are on so we can get to know one another a little better. This can be especially helpful for me as the newbie in our community, to help me connect names with faces! Also remember you can interact with chat and by using the “raise your hand” icon in the reaction drop down. I’m looking forward to seeing you all Monday night!

Here is the Zoom Link for the evening:

Monday Nights with Rev. John is a 10-week exploration of the book, Creating the Beloved Community, by Rev. Dr. Jim Lockard, a well-known and respected leader within the New Thought movement.

If you don’t have the book, you can join anyway, but your experience of these sessions will be enhanced through reading the book.

This book is available in paper-back or kindle version at amazon.ca.
