The What, Why, and How of Money

SPECIAL GUEST: Rev. Dr. Kenn Gordon

Abundance and prosperity do not have to be about money. It is always about energy. Everything is energy, and there is no lack of energy. Raymond Charles Barker called money, “congealed energy.” Maybe it’s not chasing after more…. Maybe it’s about celebrating what we already have?

Join me on Sunday, Nov. 10th as we wander through a contemplation on the “what, why and how of money.”

Dr. Kenn Gordon

Join us at Studio 9 (1180 Houghton Rd, Kelowna, BC V1X 2C9). Doors open at 10:15am. Enter the property by the side entrance behind the staff parking lot. Look for our signs to guide you! Please use street parking or park at Ben Lee Park (1.5 blocks away).

Or you can always watch our live stream on Facebook Live via Centre for Spiritual Living Kelowna's Facebook page.

After the service, you can find all talks on our YouTube channel.

Last Sunday's Talk

ATOMIC THOUGHTS

Irene Kowalchuk, RScP

We are offered an abundant life with limitless possibilities that await us. Last Sunday, Irene blessed us with an inspirational talk and lovely practice suggestions reminding us that with an attitude of gratitude, we can open our hearts to the flow and believe that the Universe is for us. We can do it - one atomic thought at a time.

If you missed her talk, or want to see it again, follow the link:

My Faith is Unwavering

Whether you’re filled with euphoria or despair in the wake of Tuesday’s Presidential election, I invite you to know a deeper truth with me.

The world’s gonna do what the world’s gonna do. I have no armies or unlimited funds to channel my opinions to media influencers. Nor do I have any intention to change anyone’s life. I’m here in my little corner of the world fully engaged with an unchanging purpose, “to be a compassionate and inspirational resource for the fulfillment of purpose for individuals and communities.”

Right where I stand. Every day. And my prayer each day is simply gratitude, the list for which stretches my imagination each day and fires my heart with compassion. I’m planting seeds and nothing more, knowing that those that follow will reap a richer harvest than that which was left for us. As it has always been.

“…. For in our hands a future forms,

Where kindness takes the lead,

and voices rise, both young and old,

to plant compassion’s seed.

May our hearts beat as one as we stand

Guided by wisdom, and sight made clear,

holding faith in each other’s strength

and trusting peace will draw near….”

~ Bobbi Becker

As a community we stand for “transforming lives and inspiring people to make a positive difference in the world.” And that is enough! An unwavering faith in each other, all of us! From there, we aspire to create a world that works for all, where no child goes hungry, where no one feels unloved, where peace and prosperity prevail for all living things and rekindling the memory of this planet as a paradise and treating it as such.

~ John DePalma

Multifaith Okanagan November 13, 2024

“So powerful is the Light of Unity that it can illuminate the whole world.”

~ Bahá’u’lláh

In this sometimes-divisive world, standing together as Communities of Faith is powerful.

CSL Kelowna is a foundational member of the Okanagan Multi-Faith Community. The intention of the Okanagan Multi-Faith Committee is to gather with the intention of promoting understanding, brotherhood, and support between faiths.

In October, members of our CSL Kelowna Community joined other faith-groups in learning about Baha’i history, tradition, and practices to enhance our understanding of the Baha’i faith and culture.

Following the formal presentation, we were served delicious treats in the social period following.

The next gathering will be hosted by the Sikh Community on Wednesday, November 13.

If you’re interested in attending, please contact Rev. Corinne at corinne_crockett@telus.net for details.

Want a sure-fire way to lift your Spirits and improve your overall health & happiness?

This is an invitation to join in on the fun of World Kindness Day on Wednesday, November 13th.

You’ve got time to plan or get a group together to aid and abet you in the fun of performing Random Acts of Kindness (RAK).

RAK don’t have to be big. Simply doing something nice for someone without being asked, and with no expectation of a return, is a random act of kindness.

There are so many ways to show kindness, and they don’t have to cost anything. They can be as simple as holding a door open for someone, letting someone into traffic, paying for the guy’s coffee behind you at Tim Hortons, plugging a parking meter for someone else, or sending a kind text to a friend.

Can you imagine the ripple of goodness that would wash over the world if everyone at CSL Kelowna performed even one act of kindness? I sure can!

RAK are of interest in the scientific and psychological world today, as researchers delve into the benefits.

While recipients of kind acts benefit in a variety of ways, we don’t have to wait for them to happen to us. The greatest effects are experienced by those who perform such acts:

- Reduced depression & anxiety

- Increased self-worth & happiness

- Increased confidence

- Increased sense of personal connection

- Reduced stress hormones

- Decreased blood pressure & heart rate

- Increased heart health

- Decreased pain

- Increased cognitive function

- Strengthened immune system

- Increased energy

We can rewire our brains and our body chemistry for the better, as acts of caring find their way into our brains and bodies. Successful people are found to incorporate kindness into their lives. Even planning future acts, or recalling past acts of kindness, cause a positive shift inside us.

While no one else even needs to know about the kindness you’ve extended, benefits are experienced by people who merely witness such acts being performed. They are uplifted and more likely to extend kindness to others, compounding the effects.

As research into the benefits of RAK continues, encouraging such acts is being considered as an intervention to support mental well-being.

There’s a Random Acts of Kindness Foundation (https://www.randomactsofkindness.org/) you can visit to learn more about the benefits, as well as receive ideas to inspire you.

November 13th is World Kindness Day, but don’t wait until then to utilize this simple, yet powerful practice.

Let the wave of kindness begin. Emanating from the heart of our Beloved Spiritual Community!

Assistant Minister, Rev. Corinne Crockett, was inspired to hold an intention circle focused on Unity, Peace, and Healing, of awakening the vision for kindness, respect, safety, and peace that lives in all hearts.

Last Sunday, Rev. Melody Bailey led the Intention circle attended by 16 people in our community. The intention statement was, "We live in a world where love, safety and peace bless the soul of humanity now."

This intention circle is based on Power of 8, a book by Lynne McTaggart, a journalist who researched the power of intention using meditative practices based on Masters in this field such as Buddhist monks, and Qigong masters.

She entered this research as a skeptic and came out convinced that the power of intention works, not only on the person(s) receiving the intention but also on the 'intendees'. She created a process that is optimal; hence "The Power of 8" and shared this in her book. Our Centre has been using these intention circles for at least 6 years and we have had amazing results.

This Sundays' practice was particularly powerful and many in the room felt a powerful energy of peace, love, and safety both in their circles of 8 and extending out globally. I invite you all to hold this intention and add them to your meditations: "We live in a world where love, safety and peace bless the soul of humanity now."

Blessings,

Rev. Melody

Monday Night Book Study Continues

With Rev. John DePalma

Monday, November 11, 6:30-8:00 pm

Creating the Beloved Community… Update!

Wow! We had a great meeting Monday night with a lively discussion about what it’s going to take to create the Beloved Community! We’ve talked about form and structure; last week we looked at the energy   of being with each other in the beloved community!

Though we said this book study would be 10 weeks we’re just having so much fun (and deep, rich conversation). So we’ll keep going until we finish the book!

Next Monday (week 10) Chapter 7

 EVOLVING LEADERSHIP

“Man who waits for roast duck to fly into mouth must wait very, very long time.”

 ~ Chinese Proverb

What are the qualities needed to create the beloved community?

There is a new field of study that has emerged containing many important ideas and models for leadership. The field can generally be described as the field of multiple intelligences.

Four overall areas of intelligences help us to recognize the importance of understanding multiple intelligences and how to develop ways to enhance our own intelligence and skills and the health and vibrancy of our community.

Don’t miss out! Even if you haven’t yet participated! Everyone is welcome to join in what promises to be an interesting conversation about dismantling traditional ways of thinking and reassembling a whole-body experience of integral spirituality.

I invite and encourage you to read the introduction and Chapter 1 - Chapter 7 to get a sense of what’s possible in the Beloved Community, so you can be fully engaged.

When logging in make sure your name and video are on so we can get to know one another a little better. This can be especially helpful for me as the newbie in our community, to help me connect names with faces! Also remember you can interact with chat and by using the “raise your hand” icon in the reaction drop down. I’m looking forward to seeing you all Monday night!

Here is the Zoom Link for the evening:

Monday Nights with Rev. John is a 10-week exploration of the book, Creating the Beloved Community, by Rev. Dr. Jim Lockard, a well-known and respected leader within the New Thought movement.

If you don’t have the book, you can join anyway, but your experience of these sessions will be enhanced through reading the book.

This book is available in paper-back or kindle version at amazon.ca.
