MESSAGE FROM REV. JEANETTE VINEK

Finding Myself in the Other

I'VE JUST RETURNED from a family reunion in Gatlinburg Tennessee.  My dad's family gathers every two years so that we can catch up, love on each other, and share our lives for a week.  He has a big family, and we've always been close.

I can say without a doubt, we all shine our individual lights in unique and very different ways.  The thread that binds us is that we love each other.

It struck me one evening as many of us were gathered around a table just chatting and reminiscing, and laughing and crying, that we have been able to create something quite beautiful.

We have a diverse perspective of political, social and cultural views.   What I know is that if we weren't family, there is very little chance we would all be gathered in the same room at the same time. Our beliefs are just too different.  And yet, we love each other.

I was reflecting on this one night at the reunion as I tucked into bed and my curiosity was sparked.   How is it that we love and respect each other with such vastly different beliefs?

And then it hit me that perhaps it's because I can see myself in them.  I can see the common thread of humanity that binds us.  I can see this thread because they are my family.

And then it really hit me.... what if I was willing to look at all humanity in this same way?  What if I was willing to find that thread that binds us all together in this remarkable experience called life.

I'm inviting you to join me this Sunday to hear more about my journey of Finding myself in the Other, and what might be possible if we are willing to open our hearts; even just a little.

Much love and many blessings,

Rev. Jeanette

Sunday August 4

Finding Myself in the Other

Rev. Jeanette Vinek

“Nothing disrupts dehumanization more quickly than inviting someone over, looking into their eyes, hearing their voice, and listening.”

― Sarah Schulman

Ernest Holmes reminds us that, “In Mind there is no time, no space, no place; there is only wholeness, oneness, and eternity.” (A New Design for Living pg. 194.3)

Because of our fundamental belief in the Oneness of all, Science of Mind naturally challenges the human tendency to "other" individuals or groups.

It encourages a shift in perception towards recognizing the inherent unity and equality of all people which invites us to approach others with compassion, empathy, and respect.
