MESSAGE FROM REV. CORINNE CROCKETT
Unstatus Quo
WE'VE SURELY STARTED shaking up the status quo with July’s monthly theme of The Gifts of Imperfection, scratching beneath the veneer of perfection and exploring conditions common throughout humanity.
I just love that we’re exploring topics close to my heart and mind and the reality of the human experience.
We continue to shake things up this month, deepening in our journey with the August theme of Unstatus Quo.
Today’s world can be incredibly challenging to navigate. Our spiritual community must be a safe space to explore all of our humanness if we are to grow as individuals and as a Community, even topics considered taboo or difficult, such as trauma and sexuality.
Rev. Jeanette was amazing last Sunday as she shared her heartfelt wisdom in her talk, Finding Myself in the Other, as she was able to connect with love, despite great differences. Be sure to check out the recording for her powerful and wise message.
This coming Sunday I’m excited to be speaking to you about a topic gaining much interest these days, Trauma & Spiritual Bypassing, topics near-and-dear to my heart.
I suspect there are many people just like me who, despite trying to stay positive, having done repeated affirmations and spiritual practices, have felt stuck. It can be frustrating when this happens, we may feel we’re not ‘doing it right’, or that these things work for others but not for us.
While I often wish it were as easy as that old Bob Newhart sketch where he tells his troubled patients to ‘stop it, just stop it!’ But, it’s not always so simple and stopping it, or being positive isn’t always enough.
Rev. John shared a powerful reading that stirs me to the core. It comes from a book by David Spangler called Everyday Miracles; The Inner Art of Manifestation.
“The idea of positive thinking is central to most teachings on manifestation. However, for me what is more important is a larger quality I call positive being.
Teachings on positive thinking generally concentrate on eliminating negative thoughts, the doubts, the fears, the questions that might interfere with accomplishing a goal. However, in the right context, doubts, fears, and questioning can lead to important insights.
They represent a person’s struggle to go deeper into his own soul and into the soul of the world. Going into our fears and doubts, listening to them, and learning from them, can bring us to a new awareness and a deeper attunement with the holistic power of life.
We need a broader and more systemic way of measuring positivity than simply looking to see if our thoughts are always good and encouraging and our feelings are always up and bouncy.
Our true powerful positivity is made up of more than just a succession of positive affirmations and thoughts. It arises from the health and balance of our whole lives, which includes the darker elements as well as the lighter ones.
Sometimes doubt, anger, fear, depression, or despair signal the movement of deep transformative forces within the psyche; they are signs of inner transformations and psychic shifts.
Or they reflect genuine problems and imbalances in our social and natural environment. In either case, to push such feelings away or to deny them in the interests of a surface positivity is to bind our energy, not to liberate it.
It is the energy from your whole life -the energy of your presence-that will ultimately support and vitalize your acts of manifestation. The occasional doubt or fear, worry or negative thought will not disrupt the process.”
As Rev. John wrote:
“As a community we aspire to provide a safe place to explore using tools that develop mental, emotional and spiritual maturity to go deeper into your own being.
We aspire to nurture a compassionate environment to help the inner transformational shifts needed to navigate whatever perceived problem or imbalance in our social and natural environment.
As each person commits to who they have come here to be and fulfilling their purpose, the energy of innovation and creativity expands.
As we all commit to developing greater competencies in all our intelligences, the beloved community begins to emerges, organically fulfilling our evolutionary purpose, “To transform lives and inspiring people to make a positive difference in the world.”"
Inherent in the word community, is common unity; as humans, we face similar challenges and problems. Learning we are not alone, there are others like us who are walking the path of healing, and there’s a healthy way through. Together we walk on this very real, human journey.
I look forward to seeing you this Sunday as I delve into the topic of Trauma and Spiritual Bypassing. I’m most excited!

Trauma 101 & Spiritual Bypass
Rev. Corinne Crockett
“It is crucial we begin to listen to and support one another through our healing journeys, rather than diminishing or disregarding the pain that naturally comes with being human.”
-Rev. Kris Alexander
When transcendence of our personal history takes precedence over intimacy with our personal history, spiritual bypassing is inevitable.
To not be intimate with our past—to not be deeply and thoroughly acquainted with our conditioning and its originating factors—keeps it undigested and unintegrated and therefore very much present,”

Four Agreements Workshops:

10:30 am-12:30 pm
Studio 9 – 1180 Houghton Road, Kelowna BC
Cost: Gratitude Offering
For these four Sundays, we’ll be extending our Sunday Service time to 2-hours (10:30-12:30) as Rev. John DePalma offers a hybrid Sunday service/workshop on the Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz.
This small book outlines four principles for living a meaningful life: to be impeccable with our words, not take things personally, never make assumptions, and always do our best.
Diving deeper into these principles empowers us to make practical application of these simple, yet powerful principles to our lives.
