A Glimpse Beyond: Baha’i Reflections on the Soul and the Afterlife

On April 11th, our Okanagan Multi-Faith community gathered for a deeply meaningful presentation offered by our Baha’i friends on life after death and the journey of the soul. It certainly resonated with Ernest Holmes’ teachings of the Science of Mind.

We were gently opened by Caroline McKay, whose harp and voice carried Baha’i prayers into the room with a sense of reverence and peace—creating a sacred space that invited us to soften… and to wonder.

The presentation offered a rich view of the Soul as our true identity—an immortal, ever-evolving presence whose journey continues beyond physical death. Rather than describing the afterlife as a place, we were invited to consider it as a reality closer than our life-vein, yet beyond our current capacity to perceive.

From the Baha’i perspective, life, then, becomes a sacred preparation—a time in which the soul develops through love, learning, service, and the overcoming of challenges. Death is not an ending, but a transition in an ever-unfolding journey toward the Divine.

For those of us grounded in Science of Mind, the resonance with Ernest Holmes is unmistakable. Holmes reminds us that Life is continuous, even after transition from the physical body. What we cultivate in consciousness here becomes the very atmosphere of our ongoing experience. In both traditions, the afterlife is not about where we go, but about the consciousness we carry—and continue to evolve.

We were also reminded that love does not end at death. Prayer, intention, and acts of kindness continue to uplift and support one another—revealing a continuity of connection that transcends the physical.

As with all our Multi-Faith gatherings, what stood out was not only the wisdom shared, but the spirit in which it was offered—one of humility, curiosity, and a genuine desire to find unity in diversity.

In a world that can so easily fragment, these gatherings reveal the shared spiritual DNA that connects us all.

What if the life beyond is not a distant destination, but the natural continuation of the consciousness we are cultivating today?

And so, we tend the soul—here and now—trusting that nothing we grow in Love is ever wasted.

Our May 9th Multi-Faith session is offered by UBC Okanagan’s Spiritual and Multi-Faith services at 1:00. For details, contact Rev. Corinne.
