Remember: clocks go back one hour this Sunday!

This Sunday’s talk:

Aging, Saging and Phasing

— Dr. Deborah Gordon

“Today, my awareness joyfully rests in knowing I make a conscious choice to enjoy the journey called ‘my life’, and I proclaim, ‘Wow, what a ride!’ ”

— Dennis Merritt Jones

We all know that change is one of the constants in each of our lives whether its the change in time (falling back to standard time this weekend), the change of the seasons, or our own changes in the stages of lives. Additionally, our Centre is currently moving into one of its greatest transitional changes as Dr. Deborah retires on January 1st and we create the consciousness that will attract our next Senior Minister.

Ernest Holmes reminded us of the importance and value of change when he said: "Nature demands change so we can advance." Dr. Deborah looks at 4 phases of life change that can apply to each of us and to the life of our beloved spiritual community.

Join Dr. Deborah Gordon and our in-person congregation this Sunday, November 6th at 10:30am PT at Studio 9, 1180 Houghton Road, Kelowna, BC. Doors open at 10:15am. Please visit the event page for more details and a map. Everyone is welcome!

If you are not feeling well, please stay at home and watch us on Facebook Live.

The Legacy Gala is for everyone. Everyone.

Like Dr. Deborah Gordon said in her Happy Monday blog post this week, the Legacy Gala is for everyone. There will be a dinner. We'll have several speakers, including the Spiritual Leader of the greater Centers for Spiritual Living organization, the previous president of Religious Science International and Dr. Pat Campbell from Calgary. There will be a slide show and a video. There will be dancing to a live band, Sista B and the Boyz, as a matter of fact! As Dr. Deb says: “This Gala is for EVERYONE, especially most especially, our beautiful community! This is for all of us and it’s so important that everyone knows that!”

This Week’s Science of Mind Theme

Roots and Wings

In the words of Maya Angelou, “The ache for home lives in all of us.” Having a place to call home is a basic human need. At its best, home is where we feel free to fully express ourselves. It is a familiar place of unconditional love and acceptance.

In its ideal, home is the place where we can be our authentic, imperfect selves and know we are seen, loved and accepted just the way we are. It is a place that we know, where we also feel known. Home gives us a sense of rootedness, a feeling of familiarity, safety and belonging. The stability established by that safety and belonging creates a launching pad that allows us to spread our wings and take flight. We feel free to venture out and be our authentic selves, knowing home is always a safe place to land.

What does the word “home” mean for you in the ideal sense? Envision what a happy, healthy home means for you and any others with whom you may live. Take time to establish a mental equivalent of that healthy, happy home; affirm it and claim it as yours.

“God is at home, it's WE who have gone out for a walk.”

— Meister Eckhart

Our Halloween was Spooktacular!

Last Sunday’s Halloween service, Scary? I'll show you scary! was filled with screams, screeches and lots of wonderful music.

Watch the full service on YouTube.

Rev. Barb Samuel and Neal Klassen sang All I Have to do is Dream

(The Everly Brothers).

Neal Klassen spoke about Frankenstein in Science Corner.

A New World. A New Way: The Return to Our Nature

We have a special guest speaker coming to us on Sunday, November 13.

Dane Stevens is an author, speaker and facilitator. He is the owner and director of An Extraordinary Life, a company that promotes healing, self-empowerment and spiritual awareness. He is the developer of the Neuro Trauma Healing Process (NTHP) and the Soul Re-Cognition Process (SRC), healing to empowerment modalities that obtain profoundly positive results for people dealing with unwanted behaviors, chronic conditions and addictive behaviours. Dane is a behavioral expert whose work involves changing the stigma of mental health and teaching meditation. His goal is to show people how to create a connection with their inner life, freeing themselves from their past and stepping into their nature of inner peace, that reveals outer freedom and fulfillment.

Dane is originally from the hidden gem, Salmon Arm, in the interior of British Columbia, where he grew up playing in and water skiing on Shuswap Lake. He has spent 7 years in Santa Monica California learning about trauma and the nervous system in the sand and the sun. Dane now resides in the gorgeous Okanagan Valley with his beautiful partner Anne, where they can often be found at the beach or deep in nature hiking in search of the next most dynamic waterfall.

Join Dane and our in-person congregation for Sunday service at Studio 9, 1180 Houghton Road, Kelowna, BC on Sunday, November 13.
