What’s New at CSL Kelowna 💗 July 15, 2022

We had Rev. Gwen Smith and Dr. Rev. Nadene Rogers join us with their fabulous, uplifting singing voices last Sunday! If you missed it, you can catch the replay on our YouTube channel. Also, see the photos below. This coming Sunday, July 17th, will be extra special with the installation of our Assistant Minister, Rev. Corinne Crockett, followed by a potluck!

This Sunday’s talk:

Celebrating Community

— Dr. Deborah Gordon

“We are a loving community – loving is an adjective – it’s something we do, something we feel – it’s rooted in our us and brought out through our teaching – our principles.

Rev. Colette Mercier

This coming Sunday, July 17th we will have the installation ceremony for our new Assistant Minister, Rev. Corinne Crockett. This ceremony is an important marker and celebration for our community. We’ll begin our morning with our regular Sunday service dedicated today, to the theme of community. We’ll be exploring the ideas that together we have the power to do what we might not be able to accomplish alone, and that true community involves responsibility and working together to create who we are.

Following the Sunday service, we’ll take a quick break, then we’ll have the Installation Celebration which will be followed by a community potluck.

Please bring a dish to share.

Join Dr. Deborah and our in-person congregation this Sunday, July 17th at 10:30am PT at Studio 9, 1180 Houghton Road, Kelowna, BC. Doors open at 10:15am. Please visit the event page for more details and a map. Everyone is welcome!

If you are not feeling well, please stay at home and watch us on Facebook Live.

This Week’s Science of Mind Theme

You and Me Create Society

Living, moving and being the expression of a unified society calls us to a new paradigm, a new evolved way of being where we practice the teaching as a Beloved Society. We are invited to embody love not solely in an individual manner but rather in a collective manner.

Society is an agreement of the people. If we are manifesting a world that works, that means we first manifest societies that work for all and that means our relationships with each other and with those we may never meet who are affected by laws, policies, and our prayers. Within various societal groups, there are people who choose to do the work required to change the systems, the laws, the relationships so that everyone has equal rights, protection under the law, and the freedom to live, being who each individualized expression of God is.

As you interact with the world, pause periodically and look at the societal norms you and those around you have agreed to follow through the lens of “a world that works for all.” As you notice things in your surroundings that are not demonstrating this vision, ask yourself, “what can I do to be an ambassador of this society that works?” Once you have your answer, do it! It might be volunteering at school, helping a neighbour with yard work, or speaking before parliament about human rights. And it is always an invitation to “treat and move your feet.”

“If everyone demanded peace instead of another television set, then there'd be peace.” — John Lennon

Singing at Sunday Service

If you weren’t at our service last Sunday, July 10th, we encourage you to watch the replay of Rev. Jeanette Vinek’s wonderful talk, Stubborn as a Mule – When I Know that I Know, along with the beautiful voices of Rev. Gwen Smith and Dr. Rev. Nadene Rogers.

The three reverends sang congregational hymns together.

Rev. Gwen Smith sang with Rev. Barb Samuel…

A Love Never Known (by Leahy).

Rev. Barb and Dr. Rev. Nadene Rogers sang Oyaheya (by Rickie Byars) …

… and Rev. Nadene also sang God Bless the Child.

And of course, we had all three reverends singing on stage at the end of the service: Just Say Yes!

We are so grateful for the musical talent we have within CSL Kelowna!

Thank You, Brew Crew!

We love our volunteers! Thank you, Kathy, for making the coffee last Sunday! Here she is having a cuppa with Angela at the kitchen counter.

MIND-FULL MOMENT

Unity is the basis of all that there is. There is but one God, but one mind, but one spirit, and but one power. When I embody myself in my thoughts selfishly, I am separating myself from that which I think would be my good. You may think this is a very subtle thing and could not be the reason for so much trouble. It is the foundation of most of our troubles. I am unconsciously separating myself from my good.
