What’s New at CSL Kelowna 💗 July 1, 2022

Happy Canada Day! It was a Soul Food Sunday last weekend. If you missed it, watch the replay. That was our last Sunday service in the temporary classroom at Studio 9. As of this coming Sunday, July 3rd, we are back in the auditorium of the main building at Studio 9 (1180 Houghton Road, Kelowna). There will be more room to spread out if you so choose, and we will be that much closer to the kitchen, so make sure you grab a coffee with us!

This Sunday’s talk:

Breaking the Trance of Unworthiness

— Rev. Corinne Crockett

“I found myself praying: May I love and accept myself just as I am.

Tara Brach

So many of us have grown up with messages about where we fall short, believing we should be different from the way we are. We make many changes on the outside, but nothing we do seems to soothe the voices of self-criticism for very long. These critical, internal voices easily become our default; and they don’t tell you the truth.

Our culture is a breeding-ground for the contemporary epidemic of feeling deficient and unworthy. Savvy marketers depend upon us never awakening from the trance of unworthiness. Self-criticism and feeling “not good enough” serves as an invisible catalyst that drives our daily behaviour, seeking a sense of worthiness and self-satisfaction. I’ve heard this game called “seek and don’t find”.

Life doesn’t have to be one big self-improvement project that never ends! Keeping the prize of being enough, just as you are, dangling out in front of you like some unattainable prize creates suffering and an eternal quest for the answers in all the wrong places.

When will I get it right and be enough? Who would I be if I believed I am enough and lovable just as I am? What would self-acceptance feel like? What would happen then?

Awakening from the trance of unworthiness may seem like the quest of a lifetime, but the answer might be easier and closer than you think!

Awakening to our own inherent perfection and lovability doesn’t mean we won’t continue to grow and evolve. It means that love, not fear and self-criticism, become a powerful catalyst for our growth. With love as the catalyst, our growth becomes exponential.

Join Rev. Corinne Crockett and our in-person congregation this Sunday, July 3rd at 10:30am PT at Studio 9, 1180 Houghton Road, Kelowna, BC. Doors open at 10:15am. Please visit the event page for more details and a map. Everyone is welcome!

If you are not feeling well, please stay at home and watch us on Facebook Live.

This Week’s Science of Mind Theme

Me, Myself, and I

Our relationship with our own selves, by our mental equivalent, becomes law unto our lives. Self-Identification as the multifaceted beings we are, offers us an invitation to align and unify the various aspects of our lives.

Looking at our lives, we see that we may be an employer and a spouse and an artist. When we learn to look at all of the layers and aspects to who we are and how we show up, we develop greater awareness of our lives.

Self-care as a deep and abiding spiritual practice, demonstrates to ourselves and to the world that we understand and recognize our value and worth. We have often heard the body referred to as the temple of God. Spirit is not just within us, the body itself is Spirit. Our caring for our bodies demonstrates our appreciation of it and all we do with it. This self-care is not just for our physical selves. Our mental (intellectual) and emotional selves benefit from the ways in which we nourish our minds and our hearts with love, empathy, and compassion.

With wonder in your heart, get to know yourself. Become your own best friend. Fall in love with you. Honour and celebrate you. Say thank you to YOU!

MIND-FULL MOMENT

Every evidence of human experience, all acts of kindness and mercy, have interpreted themselves through each person’s self-knowing mind. All that we consciously known say or think, feel or believe, hope or long for, fear or doubt, is some reaction of the self-knowing mind.
