Talk for this Sunday, May 7, 2023

The Inner and Outer Spectrum

— Rev. Melody Bailey

My inward journey and outward experience

are in perfect alignment.

Some flowers bloom at night and can be likened to the inner spectrum within the shadows. Other flowers bloom in the day and can be likened to the outer spectrum within the light. No matter when they bloom, flowers have beauty, colour, fragrance, and unique details that are important to the Oneness of life, just like the inner and outer spectrum.

Join Rev. Melody this Sunday, May 7 at 10:30am PT at Studio 9, 1180 Houghton Road, Kelowna, BC. Doors open at 10:15am. Please visit the event page for more details and a map. Everyone is welcome!

If you are not feeling well, please take good care of yourself and watch us on Facebook Live.

The SOM theme for May is Light Within the Shadows. Light and dark co-exist together and cradle each other in support. There isn’t one without the other. They each have their own traits and characteristics. They may seem to operate independently, but actually they are a pair that work in unison as complements within the spectrum. Generally, we have learned to embrace the light as good and avoid darkness as bad, given its unknowns and mystery. However, the two work powerfully in synergy together.

This Week’s Science of Mind Theme

The Inner and Outer Spectrum

We process inwardly through our thoughts and emotions. We express outwardly as we interact with experiences. Both provide information to help shape our reality. Both are necessary for our growth and evolution. When in alignment, the inner and outer dimensions work in harmony and healthy partnership.

We were born of the creative process, yet we are manifest beings in physicality. Spiritual practices help us bring the unconscious/subconscious to the surface; we cannot fully shift our thoughts without knowing what’s buried underneath.

We gain wisdom from lessons in our experiences that can be applied to our growth and evolution. As we walk through the light and the shadows, we can savour the experience and grow from whatever it has to offer. Having awareness of the conscious and subconscious levels helps us to learn from ourselves and our experiences.

Vulnerability: Seeing and Being Seen

Last Sunday, Rev. Barbara Samuel gave an inspiring talk titled Vulnerability: Power and Possibility.

Rev. Melody Bailey gave a reading from The Optimist Creed by Christian D. Larson.

It was a special vibe throughout the service.

Then, during the closing song, "Just Say Yes", Rev. Barb invited the congregation to come up on stage and join in, singing and dancing!

It was so much fun, they added an extra round of verse and chorus.

Volunteer Trish brought out the coffee and cookies. Thank you, Trish!

Most people stayed extra long. It was a great way to spend a Sunday morning!

Watch the full service on YouTube.
