Join us for Sunday Celebration at Studio 9, 1180 Houghton Road, Kelowna.

Talk for this Sunday, May 21, 2023

— Rev. Barbara Samuel and Neal Klassen

“We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves.”

— Buddha

Stars shine brightest against a dark backdrop like the evening sky. The brilliance of each star is illuminated and magnified by its companion of darkness. The beautiful glow of the star calls forth the deep richness of the night as they co-create magnificence that is crisp, sharp, and shiny.

Join Rev. Barb and Neal for Soul Food Sunday this Sunday, May 21 at 10:30am PT at Studio 9, 1180 Houghton Road, Kelowna, BC. Doors open at 10:15am. Please visit the event page for more details and a map. Everyone is welcome!

If you are not feeling well, please take good care of yourself and watch us on Facebook Live.

This Week’s Science of Mind Theme

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star

Stars shine in daylight, but we cannot see their twinkle without the darkness of night. Just like the water in the ocean is always glistening and sparkling, we cannot see the sparkles on the water without the illumination of the light. There is a complementary partnership of the light and shadows that illuminates the richness of each. While it may seem that one may overpower the other, actually one cannot be seen without the support of the other. When we can appreciate both, we welcome levity of light and the depths of darkness to create balance and wholeness.

When we can learn from the depths of what shadows offer, our ongoing experience is lighter and brighter.

Stars twinkle brightest against the backdrop of darkness. The contrast of one accentuates the beauty of the other. The darkness and the light are a pair and dance together seamlessly. If we allow the dark to be demystified, then we can open our arms and welcome the depths and brilliance of what it has to offer. As we embrace and appreciate standing in the darkness as a natural part of life, it is there that we find the beauty of the darkness and the light. The twinkle of a star then takes on a deeper meaning.

Unlearning Fear of Darkness

Last Sunday, Rev. Corinne Crockett gave a talk titled Unlearning Fear of Darkness.

We had five of our ministers present on Mother's Day, celebrating the divine feminine in us all. Left to right: Rev. Barbara Samuel, Rev. Corinne Crockett, Rev. Melody Bailey, Rev. Diane Hockey, Rev. Jeanette Vinek.

Before we went 'live', Neal Klassen and Rev. Barb Samuel sang some tunes.

We were walking and talking with our minds stayed on spirit!

Rev. Diane Hockey gave a reading and made announcements.

Rev. Jeanette Vinek gave the affirmative prayer treatment.

Rev. Barb sang a moving song that brought up more than a few tears in the room.

Watch the full service on YouTube.

2nd Pride Work Bee & Potluck Appie Evening

We got together at Studio 9 on Wednesday to create cooling neck wraps and bookmarks to give away at the Pride Festival. It was also a potluck appie evening.

It was so much fun, we're doing it again!

When: Wednesday, May 24, 5:30pm to 9pm

Where: Studio 9 (1180 Houghton Rd, Kelowna, BC V1X 2C9)

Details: See the event page or contact Rev. Corinne Crockett at 250-868-9090 or corinne_crockett@telus.net.

We all gathered and chose what tasks we wanted to help out with.

Rev. Corinne and Rev. Melody ironed CSLK labels onto the rainbow fabric strips.

Bookmarks were laminated and we made tassels for them out of embroidery thread, representing the various Pride-related flags: rainbow, of course, but also blue-yellow-pink for pansexual, blue-white-pink for transexual, black-white for heterosexual, and black-purple-white-grey for asexual/greysexual.

We took a moment for a group photo. Left to right: Rev. Corinne, Magda, Lori, Rev. Melody, Pam, Tracy, Rev. Jeanette, Hazel, Rev. Diane.

We should have taken a photo before the food was half gone. It was so delicious!

Rev. Melody, Pauline, Rev. Corinne and Tracy marvel at the workmanship of these cooling neck wraps!

It's like magic how these cooling neck wraps work! Everyone is surprised, especially Rev. Corinne (and she's made dozens of them)! Lori and Pauline are so impressed! Come to our 2nd Pride Work Bee on Wednesday, May 24 to join in on the fun!

CSL Kelowna at the Pride Festival

Pride is right around the corner and we’re delighted to have been granted a spot at the Pride Festival.. This is a call to participate prior and/or on that date.

We stand with the LGBTQIA2+ community. Pride symbolizes not only the celebration of each person’s right to be who they are and love who they love, but it is also a demonstration of radical self-love and love for all.

We’ll be looking for volunteers for our booth to do two-hour time slots.

We have such a wonderful time; you’ll want to be part of the event.

When: Saturday, June 10, 8am to 4pm

Where: City Park, downtown Kelowna

Details: See the event page or contact Rev. Corinne Crockett at 250-868-9090 or corinne_crockett@telus.net
