Vulnerability: Defining and Aligning
— Rev. Karin Wilson
I bring my own unique expression to life,
and create a safe space for others to do the same.
Hearing the word vulnerability often makes us cringe. But do we know what it really means? Let’s begin our journey into vulnerability by defining and aligning.
Join Rev. Karin this Sunday, April 2 at 10:30am PT at Studio 9, 1180 Houghton Road, Kelowna, BC. Doors open at 10:15am. Please visit the event page for more details and a map. Everyone is welcome!
If you are not feeling well, please take good care of yourself and watch us on Facebook Live.
The SOM theme for April is The Power of Vulnerability. Vulnerability is a key ingredient in our own personal transformation. It creates an expanded awareness of what lies just below the surface. We will begin to see how vulnerability is a building block for a thriving and healthy community. When we harness the power of vulnerability in living a life that is full of possibility, we create a life that is lived out loud.
This Week’s Science of Mind Theme
Vulnerability: Defining and Aligning
In a world that often seeks to contain or suppress our true expression, vulnerability becomes an integral piece in actualizing the Spirit within. The willingness to take the risk of authentic living, leads us to the very out-picturing of the irresistible potential within us all.
To be vulnerable is to explore the depths of ourselves and others, even when we are unsure of what we may uncover. It is stepping out, whether literally or metaphorically, often in the face of uncertainty and fear, for the purpose of fostering a fuller expression of ourselves and others.
Vulnerability is not “over sharing” or “dumping” inappropriate amounts of emotions or personal history with wild abandon. To be vulnerable is not to be without boundaries, nor is it to be a “doormat”. Vulnerability is not weakness, but instead a conscious choice to express thoughts, feelings, and desires in a way that serves to nurture an authentic life.
Vulnerability becomes the necessary action of both self expression and connection. The adventure is to begin the conversation, understanding that the willingness to engage in the exploration of our own authenticity invites others to do the same. It calls us to create safe spaces, safe communities, and safe relationships in which vulnerability can thrive and grow. Vulnerability becomes the starting point of authenticity and connection, not only to ourselves, but to Spirit and the world around us. It calls us to bring our own unique expression to life, while extending the same invitation to others.
Heal Your Body Book Study
Starts this coming Wednesday, April 5
Heal Your Body is a 6-week book study of a Louise Hay classic (not to be confused with "You Can Heal Your Life"). The book study focuses on the work that Louise Hay did around body awareness, metaphysical equivalents, and using affirmations as part of physical healing.
As a Science of Mind minister, Louise Hay did groundbreaking work in the 1980s during the AIDS epidemic. She helped thousands of gay men (who were often stigmatized for their illness) come to see themselves as whole people once more. This developed into a movement of love and support.
Known for her many books containing positive and meaningful affirmations of upliftment and healing, this book study is bound to open you to raising your own level of wellbeing!
The class facilitator, Rev. Karin Wilson, has been teaching Science of Mind to students around the world since 2008. She is a keen scholar of Ernest Holmes, as well as Ralph Waldo Emerson, and approaches her work with a balance of both Eastern and Western spiritual knowledge.

MIND-FULL MOMENT
“Every one of us has in back of us the potential of the Universe. There is an irresistible potential pressing against everyone for self expression. If we listen we shall hear it, not as a voice, but as a feeling, as a Divine urge to express.”
— Ernest Holmes
