Chapter Three: What it Does

Sunday, January 21: Inspirational message

with Rev. Diane Hockey

For the first four weeks of January, we are reviewing the first four chapters of The Science of Mind, by Ernest Holmes, a book that Holmes himself said was not a special revelation but rather a culmination of all revelations.

This week we are on Chapter 3: What it Does

And just what does it do? It reflects into your life that what you put into it. As within, so without.  Rev. Diane will delve into it a little deeper to help you understand what it can do in your life.

Dr Edward Viljoen, former Spiritual Leader for Centers for Spiritual living, said this:

“The Mind of God (Universal Mind) contains all knowledge. Even though all of its wisdom is poured over us, we receive only that which we are ready to understand until such time as we consciously change or increase our receptivity to it. This is why some draw one type of knowledge into life and some another, but all from the same source.”

See you Sunday!

Last Week’s Talk: Chapter 2

If you didn’t hear Rev. Melody Bailey’s talk last week on Chapter 2:

The Way it Works, check it out on Facebook:

Mel shared some personal experiences about the “way it worked” in her life.  Here are a few highlights from her talk:

  • "But I can only manifest to the degree of my beliefs, and sometimes I have subconscious or subjective beliefs that are contradicting what I would wish."

  • "This teaching is not for the timid. It challenges us to look at The Thing Itself, The Way it Works, What It Does, and How to Use It. This is done by radically looking at our lives, our beliefs, our thoughts and learning how to release our subconscious beliefs; particularly those that are causing pain in our lives."

  • "An oxymoron in this teaching is that if we believe it doesn’t work, then it does work by appearing not to work!"

Listen to Rev. Melody’s talk for more words of wisdom around “The Way It Works.”

A Call For Board Members

A Message from CSL Kelowna’s President, Jeanette Vinek

Our community is looking for conscious, active and engaged members within our Centre who are interested in serving on our Board of Trustees.  Our Board has been stewarding our Centre through its transition to a new Senior Minister, and we are excited about the possibilities that are emerging.

Our organization’s purpose is to awaken humanity to its spiritual magnificence to create a world that works for everyone.   It’s big and bold and beautiful.  Would you like to be a part of steering the direction of our Centre to meet this Vision?

The Board of Trustees is responsible for administering the financial and legal affairs of the Centre.  The Board participates in the planning, development and implementation of its physical and financial goals and objectives.

 Requirements:

  1. Board members shall be current members of CSL Kelowna

  2. Each board member must have completed or be in the process of completing foundational Science of Mind classes.

  3. Each board member attends services on a regular basis, supports workshops and attends Centre functions whenever possible.

  4. Each board member is willing to provide regular identifiable financial support to the Centre through enrolment in the Conscious Giving Program.

  5. Each board member is expected to support the vision of the Centre’s ministry

  6. Board members are team players who recognize that the key to effective partnership is harmony and a loving attitude.

  7. Board members are committed to serving a 3-year term, attend monthly meetings and serve throughout the month by participating in committee work, ongoing functions and affairs of the Centre as required.

  8. Board members recognize that the Board of Trustees is an integral part of the spiritual leadership of CSL Kelowna, and they understand the importance of their commitment. They act in a professional manner and model the principles of Science of Mind.

  9. Board members respect the necessity of confidentiality in their position on the Board of Trustees. The Board will discuss and come to an agreement on how each decision is to be disseminated to the membership.

  10. The Board of Trustees operates under a principle of shared leadership using the 3 ‘C’s; clarity, consensus and commitment. Where it is legally required, decisions will be taken to a vote.

  11. Board members are expected to support the Board in the execution of each decision.

  12. All Board members are to be mindful at all times of their conduct in relating to one another as well as to the congregation at large. Board members are to demonstrate ethical, respectful, courteous behavior at all times and to extend a warm welcome and conversation with any and all CSL members and visitors.

If you are interested in more information or applying to serve as a Board member, please connect with Irene Kowalchuk at irenek13@telus.net
