AWAKENING TO MORE IN 2024

A message from our Assistant Minister

Happy New Year!

The past year has flown by, and we stand on the cusp of wonderful, new beginnings.

The new year is a wonderful time to pause and go within to listen to what’s wanting to emerge through each of our lives in this brand new, baby year. It’s the perfect time to let the noise and busyness of the world fade for a while and consciously chart our course for what’s waiting to be born through each of us.

This is a big year for our members as the process of calling in our Centre’s new Senior Minister is well underway.  We know the perfect person will answer our call.

January is membership time, and membership this year is more important than ever. Membership within a spiritual community such as ours is a powerful sacred practice.

At CSL Kelowna it is a statement to the Universe and ourselves that, as engaged members, we’ve consciously chosen alignment with spiritual principles and practices and our vision of a world that works for all.

Membership changes us and comes with both privileges as well as duties and responsibilities https://www.cslkelowna.org/membership. Membership is a requirement to vote both at our Annual General Meeting on February 25th, 2024, as well as to vote in the selection of our new Senior Minister. You may sign-up for membership via the cslkelowna.org website or in person on Sundays.

There is power in unity; where two or more are joined the power is magnified; together we are stronger. I resonate deeply with the 2024 Center’s for Spiritual Living Global theme of Grand Rising and know this year will indeed be a new, grand rising for CSL Kelowna, as we are Awakening to More in 2024!

I echo the words of our greater organization as they shared: “The Centers for Spiritual Living can no longer be the world’s best-kept secret. It’s time for us to emerge into this new world: driven by faith, leading with courage, and moving with action. It is time for our Grand Rising.”

Living the teachings of Science of Mind enables us to collectively participate in a grand rising. We have the freedom to shake off what’s come before and step into our greatness.

To ‘rise grandly’ is a decision to begin the day with positivity and intentionality. It wakes us up from unconscious habits and behaviors and moves us towards conscious action that supports evolution individually and collectively.

One of my favourite quotes is, “We must become the change we want to see in the world” from Mahatma Ghandi.

Creation begins within our own individual consciousness and is then out pictured in the world. What change would you love to see in your life and the world? A kinder, more peaceful world? Then we must become kinder and more peaceful within ourselves.

As I shared in my talk at the Celebration of Light, as a society we’ve tried to scare and bully ourselves into new ways of being. It’s time to try something new by engaging the Law of Love.

Throughout the month of January, we’ll be returning to the basics of our teaching, exploring the first four chapters of the Science of Mind text. Whether you’re new to the teaching or have been practicing for many years, there are gifts and jewels held within these chapters that help transform our lives.

Here’s to an exciting 2024 as, together, we awaken more.

Love and Blessings,

Rev. Corinne Crockett

Assistant Minister

DECEMBER HIGHLIGHTS

We held our annual Celebration of Light on December 17 at Rotary Centre for the Arts.  120 people attended to hear some awesome music and an inspirational message.  It was great to see so many familiar faces (and some new ones, too).  We hope to see those faces again at our regular Sunday services. There were a few technical glitches so, unfortunately, we were not able to record the service or live stream it on Facebook.

The Secret Santa Program gifted handmade Christmas Decorations by donation to raise money for children and Science of Mind families in Kenya.  We were delighted to raise enough money to support 144 kids in our Food Program.  Reverend Barb and Reverend Gwen and the entire Kenyan community give profound gratitude to Reverend Corinne for coordinating the teams to make ornaments and continuing to hold the vision for our sister communities.

The search for our new Senior Minister took a huge step forward on December 5 with the release of our information package and application process. Applications will be accepted until February 5th.  This is a leap year, you know…. So, it’s fitting that the process is ongoing now.  Finding our new Senior Minister will be a huge leap forward for our Centre.

Check out the video we produced as part of our

package of information for potential new ministers.

January Theme: First Four Chapters SOM

In the Centers for Spiritual Living, it is a tradition among some communities to dedicate the first four weeks of each new year to the first four chapters of Ernest Holmes’, The Science of Mind: The Thing Itself; The Way It Works; What It Does, and; How To Use It.

“A new light is coming into the world. We are on the borderland of a new experience. The veil between Spirit and matter is very thin. The invisible passes into visibility though our faith in it. “(SOM Text: p. 60 paragraph 3).

These are exciting times and our time is Now. Within the teaching of Science of Mind are powerful tools to help us transform our lives and our world. Coming back to the basics of our teaching restores our awareness and reinvigorates us in remembering our vast power and potential.

January is the perfect time to re-visit the first four chapters of the Science of Mind text, and remind ourselves of our ability and responsibility to transform our lives and our world through the application of Science of Mind principles.

According to Dr. Jean Houston, mystic, philosopher, and researcher, “Consciously or unconsciously, we direct the flow of Universal Mind into form, granting us tremendous power and with it the innate responsibility to make or break our world through the extraordinary working power of our minds.”

In her forward of the Science of Mind text, she holds up our powerful teaching that, “takes seriously the dictum of being recreated through the renewing of our minds. And not just our minds but our bodies and souls as well.” Houston closed by writing, “These are the times. We are the people. This (SOM Text) is the book that can help us do it.”

January 7 – Rev Barbara Samuel: The Thing Itself

Ernest Holmes said, “The mind which we discover within us is the mind that governs everything. This is the thing itself.”

January 14 - Rev Melody Bailey: The Way It Works

God/Spirit/The Power of Mind – whatever you want to call it, it works though you.

January 21 - Rev Diane Hockey: What It Does

It reflects into your life that which you put into it.  As within, so without.

January 28 - Rev Corinne Crockett : How to Use It

By training your mind you can create a life that is fulfilling and satisfying.

As a long time member of Centre for Spiritual Living Kelowna, I would like to give thanks to all those that have served me in times of celebration, sadness, and poor health. I have learned so much from attending classes, services and events that have enriched my life mentally, physically and financially. I strongly believe in membership and volunteering to strengthen my own life and those around me. I do know I am on the path of becoming who I am meant to be and know I will see you all soon! 🤗 Judy Kerr
