Happy Monday, October 4, 2021

I’m sad to see the summer go. I recognize that fall isn’t really my favourite season, because I know it portends winter’s coming, but I have to say there’s something so dear to my heart about these first couple of weeks of October.

First, October 3rd marks the day 28 years ago that Kenn and I came back to Canada after having lived for a decade in the Southern California desert. That seemingly ‘accidental’ move south brought us the greatest gift, for it was there that we literally stumbled into the Science of Mind teaching, which was known at the time as the Religious Science Church of the Desert. Praise be to that Centre where we found our teacher, Dr. Tom Costa, this teaching, and the profound next chapters of our lives as we took what we learned and had instilled in our consciousness, along with our desire to serve, and came back home to found our community, the Kelowna Centre for Spiritual Living.

Recognize these faces from 1993?*

Second, October 17th, 1993 marks the day (two weeks later) that we had our very first Sunday Celebration service at the Kinsmen Field House, welcoming 12 whole people (including our family of 4) into our realm. It was slightly humbling as we’d come from a Centre that served about 800 people on a Sunday morning, but it was a start. I’m eternally grateful to each of those people who were willing to venture into the unknown with us!

Third, between those two auspicious dates is Thanksgiving. I love a holiday that is dedicated to cultivating and celebrating gratitude for the gifts of our lives and the Source that sustains us all. I love that the creative power of giving thanks is brought to our minds and hearts with a weekend dedicated to recognizing the good that exists in our lives.

I’m especially grateful this year that we’ll be honouring Thanksgiving with an in-person and virtual service for our community. My talk title is Blessings Upon Blessings and we’re going to do some powerful gratitude work. If you’re here in Kelowna, I invite you to be one of the 50 people we’ll be able to have at the Innovation Centre, if you’re comfortable being in person with all the required safety protocols. I’d love to see you there! Please RSVP on the event page.

I also want to give thanks for those of you who joined us at our Community Town Hall meeting yesterday. It was so good to see everyone in the Zoom room! It’s not the same for sure as the days when we’d gather for our Town Halls at the Peace Centre, but I’m grateful for the technology that allows us to connect.

Speaking of the Peace Centre, as I mentioned yesterday at the Community Town Hall, we received an offer on our office/classroom space property. Your Board of Trustees came up with a counter-offer which is being delivered as I write this. Divine Right Timing and Divine Right Action are my touch stones for this. Stay tuned for updates.

Blessings upon blessings, Dr. Deborah

If you missed yesterday’s Sunday Celebration talk given by Amanda Pope, RScP, titled Belonging and the Beloved Community, you can watch it (and other past services) on the CSLK YouTube channel.

Practitioner of the Week is Rev. Gwen Smith. If you are looking for one-to-one prayer treatment support for ANYTHING, you can contact this practitioner directly via email at gwensmith62@gmail.com.

MIND-FULL MOMENT

October had tremendous possibility. The summer’s oppressive heat was a distant memory, and the golden leaves promised a world full of beautiful adventures. They made me believe in miracles.
