Happy Monday, October 31, 2022

Happy Halloween! What a fun Halloween service we had yesterday! Rev. Barb (“the Bee”) sure knows how to share a wonderful blend of music and humour, all enfolded with profound messages about how to live the life of our dreams. And just saying, that screech! I think poor Jean is still trying to recover her shock! She literally jumped out of her seat at one of Barb’s very startling and authentic witch cackles. Just in case you missed it – there would be no TRICK in giving yourself the TREAT of watching the livestream replay! It was so fun!

Speaking of fun, I had a wonderful and quite eye-opening conversation after service today with one of our very long-time congregants who asked me for some details about our upcoming retirement Gala party. From what we talked about, I wanted to make sure we’re all on the same page about this event. This chat was with someone who’s been with our community for 26 years (God bless her!) and she wasn’t sure if this party was meant for her. Our conversation began with her questions. She asked me if there would be a dinner; I said yes. She asked: “Will there be speakers?” I said yes, there will be several, including the Spiritual Leader of the greater Centers for Spiritual Living organization, the previous president of Religious Science International and Dr. Pat Campbell from Calgary. She asked: “Will there be a slide show?” I said yes. Kenn’s brother Cameron is putting together both a slide show and a video reel for us to watch. She asked: “Will there be dancing?” I said, yes indeed! Sista B and the Boyz will be providing lots of dance music for us. (She didn’t ask me this, but there will even be a photo booth with props!) She then said: “But this party really isn’t for just us congregants, is it?” I said: “Oh my gosh! This is for EVERYONE, especially most especially, our beautiful community! This is for all of us and it’s so important that everyone knows that! And thus, this is the topic for my Happy Monday message this week.

I am so grateful for this opportunity to clear up any misunderstanding. The Legacy Gala is for everyone – Everyone. Now I realize that for many, especially during these times, the price feels quite high, and I just want to say that the Gala committee did all they could to keep it as low as possible. I even checked back over the years to see what we had charged for tickets for our previous gala events, and we charged the same ticket price as we’re charging now and we all know how much inflation has impacted pricing. We packed as much as we could into the evening to make sure there’s lots of value for everyone.

Also, for those interested, the gala committee is making a full weekend of this celebration, and there will be the opportunity for a wine tour, a distillery visit, as well as a special open house afternoon for our members with Kenn and myself. Additionally, we are planning a special Sunday service to top everything off on Sunday, November 27th at the Rotary Centre for the Arts which will feature a couple, if not three, of our out-of-town guest ministers. This will be open to everyone, and heads up, will start at 10am.

And so, from my heart to yours, it would mean so very much to Kenn and myself to have as many of our local “peeps” there as possible. You are the heart and soul of our community. Although the RSVP and ticket purchase date says November 1st, we’ve built some flexibility into that and can still accommodate you and would love to do so! If you’d like to contact me directly my email is revgord@shaw.ca.

With love and appreciation,

Dr. Deborah
