This week's message from Dr. Deborah
I hope this beautiful (albeit pretty cool) Monday finds each of you well!
I want to begin by giving a big shout out of congratulations and hooray to our own Reverends Barb Samuel and Gwen Smith for being called into co-ministry as Spiritual Directors for the Centre for Spiritual Living in Nairobi, Kenya. One of the gifts of discovering easy access to virtual community across the globe is their appointment! I’m so grateful they’ll also be continuing to serve our CSL Kelowna community as well, so everyone wins. I love living in a “both/and” world!
I am hoping each of you is continuing to find grace and patience during this ongoing time of awareness and carefulness around the Covid-19 virus situation.
I must say, I’m so grateful for the caution our country has shown, along with the resulting relatively low numbers of the virus here (caution, along with an easily accessible-by-all medical system.)
I know there are some of you who are either not able to access or are not delighted with our services happening only virtually (and believe me, they are much more challenging to do them that way). However the potential of the consequences of gathering back in person too soon, makes them all worthwhile. I invite you to conjure up all the patience and inner strength you can, to hang in there (and to keep trying if it’s been difficult for you to get online on Sundays for Facebook Live or whenever it works for you time-wise on YouTube)!
If by chance any of you are wondering what you can do in the meantime – I invite you think of a friend or two you haven’t seen for a while and reach out to them or maybe even consider writing an old-fashioned, handwritten letter! Or, perhaps you can get a few people together in one of our parks for a physically-distanced “bring your own” picnic. These are definitely times where we can bring out our creativity to be in community in different ways than we’re used to.
One of the ways that’s happening for me is in reading the comments you’re posting on our Sunday morning videos on Facebook Live. I can’t tell you how fun it is to read what your reactions are during the service. In addition, I go back during the week and read them again, just to feel that sense of connection. (Believe me, it’s a challenge giving a service to only the ‘Sunday Six’ of us in the room without you!)
I know some of us are sad about the state of things, but there will be a time when this is over. In the meantime, maybe this is the call for you to reach out and connect with someone. I know I’d love to hear from you!
I know together we can do this.
Peace and blessings,
Dr. Deborah

MIND-FULL MOMENT
“Make up your mind that no matter what comes your way, no matter how difficult, no matter how unfair, you will do more than simply survive. You will thrive in spite of it.”
