Happy Monday, February 7, 2022

Right now, I see the bright sun shining on the snow which is slowly melting here in Kelowna. This brings to my mind the portent that spring is slowly starting to make its way to us here in British Columbia — at least down here in the more southern part of the province.

Additionally, my daughter sent me a picture of her garden where you can see the hardiest of herbs, the mint family, gladly pushing their way through the soil, beginning their growing season. What a delight to see them poking their green stalks out of the ground!

The little flashes of green are mint sprouts!

The beginning of February is also time for our annual membership drive here at CSL Kelowna. This includes both renewals and the invitation to first-timers to be a part of our membership. For the first time, we’ll also be implementing a process from our new bylaws where the Board will actively approve each member, acknowledging them with conscious awareness and gratitude as being active community members.

I think what I shared about membership yesterday at our Sunday service bears repeating, as membership maybe feels like a bit of a different experience since we’re only gathering virtually right now. We used to have ‘real’ paper forms, envelopes and a membership team. Today, you have me and our online form! The good news is that it’s super easy to access the form on our website. Go to the CSLKelowna.org home page, click on the membership TAB (near the top) or BUTTON (underneath the intro) and voilà! If for any reason completing the online form is a challenge for you, please email me personally at revgord@shaw.ca and I’ll be happy to support you in doing that.

I know that for many of us, not meeting in person for quite a while might make membership feel a little ephemeral and not as tangible as it used to be. But I think it’s as important as ever — maybe even more so.

I think it’s important for us to recognize that membership gives us a container in which to hold ourselves committed to this teaching. It’s a reminder to ourselves that we uphold the principles and practices of the Science of Mind in our daily lives the best we can, by attending online services and classes, as well as through our spiritual practices and reading.

Membership also signals our consciousness that we belong; that we matter; and that we have a vote in the affairs of our community. It creates an awareness within us that we can and do make a difference, both individually and collectively.

For me, since we haven’t been meeting regularly in person, having a way to create realness in our participation is super valuable. Membership is an important avenue to do that.

I’d love to see your name on our 2022 membership roster. Please sign up today. Thanks so much!

One other thing: the Centre has signed up for an easy fundraiser. If you shop at Nature’s Fare, keep your receipts and they will donate 3% of your receipt totals to our Centre! We’ll be creating a drop box for your receipts in the near future. In the meantime, please keep those receipts!

Warm blessings, Dr. Deborah

If you missed yesterday’s talk given by Derek Hinchliffe, RScP, titled Who am I? Why am I Here?, you can watch it (and other past services) on the CSLK YouTube channel.

MIND-FULL MOMENT

To me, it’s that incredible sense of belonging and peace within your own self and heart that really is joy.
