Happy Monday, February 21, 2022

Updated: Feb 21, 2022

Today is Family Day in some parts of Canada, including here in BC. It’s a great day to celebrate connections and the joy we share with our family, friends, as well as our spiritual community!

My days of late have been spent working toward the physical release (and my mental release) and the turning over of the Peace Centre to its next owners. Our completion date is March 28th. The sorting and tossing has been happening big time!

Much gratitude to Rev. Gwen Smith, Judy Kerr, Neal Klassen, Kenn Gordon, Darren Topp and Amanda Pope. A big shout out to Joanne Schlachter who took all our VIBE (children’s program) supplies, books and materials and donated them to a Friendship Centre in Vernon. She told me they were received with much gratitude. I am also so grateful for the ongoing support of Jean Elmer. She’s been so helpful with getting boxes, recycling and trash runs. She also agreed to store the books from our precious CSL Kelowna library in her basement until we know where we’re going. What a blessing!

I also want to give a giant shout out to Rev. Barb Samuel who has been beside me all the way in this big enterprise! She’s the master purger! We’ve done a lot and there’s more to do for sure. If anyone wants to come and do a shift, I’d be happy to join you. Seriously — please email me at revgord@shaw.ca to arrange it.

What a treasure it has been going through the years of accumulated posters, charts, Board meeting minutes, strategic planning sessions, membership and volunteer lists… my heart is nostalgic and very, very full. My gratitude is immense for all those who’ve taken part in the development and growth of our Centre over time. There are so many of you, and for sure we couldn’t have done it without you!

I’ve been contemplating how to best give anyone who chooses, the opportunity to say a personal and private goodbye to our classroom and office space of the last 21 years. What I came up with is to have an open house after our in-person service on March 13th at the Rotary Centre for the Arts. Kenn and I will go to the Peace Centre, open the doors and be there if anyone wants to come by. The open house will be an informal, personal time. We’ll be there from 11:30am to 1:30pm. I’m also planning for us to have a more formal, final release ceremony on Saturday, March 26th. Stay tuned for more details.

Also, a loving reminder that we’re in the midst of our annual Membership drive. I’d so love to see your name on our membership list. I know membership might feel somewhat ephemeral after two years of what might feel to some, pretty sparse connection; but believe me, it’s maybe more important than ever to have something solid to say “I’m a conscious, important part of the Centre for Spiritual Living Kelowna”. I know it’s significant for me and I’d love for you to join me.

Peace and ongoing blessings, Dr. Deborah

Yesterday was a real Family Day for us as we celebrated the Birthdays of my daughter and her son. As Layne has said about the birth of Danny , "It wasn't much of a party, but I loved my gift."

Deb, while we can look at closing your place of community as "moving on" we can't escape the nostalgia and a few of feelings of regret. I have been through three of those so I know how it feels. I will keep knowing that right action is taking place and that it is a "moving on and moving up." Sending my Love to you and Kenn and your entire community.
