Happy Monday, December 13, 2021

Well, Kenn and I are back in the world after being quarantined following our return to Canada from Egypt. That was certainly unexpected as those restrictions were only put in place literally the day we got back. I guess in these times, we have to be prepared for the unexpected!

I loved being back in person at our Peace Centre studio with the Sunday Six. Today, I’m excited as I get to go grocery shopping and have our daughter and her family over for dinner! Hooray!

We’re well heading into the holidays! I loved preparing for my talk yesterday, because it got me to go back to my Science of Mind text written by Dr. Ernest Holmes and re-read the chapter on Finding the Christ. I love that Holmes’s writings cover such a broad range of topics in so many areas. He had a skill of bringing together so many aspects of spirituality into this philosophy. I think of him as the great synthesizer as he gathered ideas from Christianity, from Hinduism, and from the Greek philosophers (just to name a few). Not being a Bible expert at all, I loved re-visiting Holmes’s perspective on Jesus the master teacher and on the Christ Consciousness. Re-reading it brought that sense of the Divine nature of all humanity to the fore of my awareness. That’s a beautiful gift for me at this time of year.

Speaking of gifts, I think that was one of the peak lessons in this chapter for me: being reminded that inside each of us is that gift of the Light and Love of the Oneness, and being encouraged to allow it to shine through us in ever greater ways.

Also speaking of gifts, next Sunday at 10:30am at the Innovation Centre (and on Facebook Live), we’ll be celebrating the holidays with our Celebration of Light… Lite! We’ve had a great response, and although it does look like there may be a few spots left, we’re at the 50-person (half capacity) max. Thanks to Barb and Neal for being instrumental in putting this together once again this year!!

Following the Celebration of Light… Lite!, Kenn will be giving out his traditional holiday gift boxes. I want to thank Irene Kowalchuk, Kenn’s ‘chief elf’ who created these boxes for you again this year. We’ll have them available out in the lobby after the service for you to pick up. The theme of the boxes is that we’re all the same/we’re all different. Thank you, Irene!

We had our monthly Board meeting yesterday and we had lots of fun beginning our meeting by recalling our personal favourite holiday traditions. Lots of them involved watching the movie “Love Actually” — thanks, Amanda! It was wonderful to hear what was meaningful. I encourage you to bring your favourites to your awareness.

I want to give a shout out of gratitude and appreciation to our Board members. Steering our community through these unprecedented times hasn’t been the easiest, for either myself or our Board members. They’ve steered us through the sale of our Peace Centre; they’re working on the “what’s next” in terms of right location for our community; we have new bylaws now approved; the conversation around planning for my eventual retirement and succession-planning has started; and yesterday, the Board was asked to approve the 2022 budget, which due to the pandemic shows a considerable loss. This hasn’t been the case for our Centre for many, many years.

I won’t bypass, it was hard; but it also was a reminder that Spirit is our Source and Supply! I asked our Board members, and now you, to actively treat for the channels of financial flow to open for us. Our teaching tells us this is done in mind, in consciousness first, and to know with faith that the material experience follows. I share this in the spirit of transparency, as I think it’s important for us as a community to have this information as it involves all of us.

I also want to give the heads up that we won’t be having a Facebook Live service on December 26th. The Boxing Day holiday is alive and well for the Sunday Six and the Centre for Spiritual Living Kelowna!

In the spirit of Oneness of the Christ-mind and the festive season for each of us, Dr. Deborah

If you missed yesterday’s talk by Dr. Deborah Gordon, titled Christ-mass: Our True Divine Nature, you can watch it (and other past services) on the CSLK YouTube channel.

MIND-FULL MOMENT

The thing about Christmas is that it almost doesn’t matter what mood you’re in, or what kind of year you’ve had — it’s a fresh start.
