Happy Monday, April 5, 2021

I loved our Easter Renewal Sunday Celebration yesterday! It was wonderful to have Rev. Jeanette Vinek ‘live’ with us, along with Rev. Melody Bailey and the Happy Easter greetings from many in our community. I also thought the music was outstanding, Derek’s talk was great and I think Dr. Kenn really hit it out of the park. I’m so grateful that even in his retirement, he’s willing to share his gifts of speaking and high wisdom with us. I know he continues to serve out of his love for our community. I feel we are very blessed for his willingness to do that, although he cautions me he doesn’t want it to be too often!! As he says, “I am retired, you know!”

I’m also so grateful for Amanda Pope’s great technical work behind the scenes. She had quite the juggling act yesterday, with all the different speakers and feeds. I am so grateful for her! The whole service warmed the cockles of my heart. If you missed it, you can catch it on YouTube.

For those who may not know, your Sunday Six (Sunday morning crew) lives for your comments on Facebook live! The only way we know you’re watching us, is if you make a comment and let us know. We can see these live as they are posted and we love to see that you’re with us in the “virtual lands” as the dog Pluto would say. Please keep those notes and comments coming! I also encourage you to chat with others in the comment thread; it’s one way during these times that we can all participate and actually contribute to fostering that community feel together.

As I mentioned last week, we have a couple of new Board members. I was also asked by someone how they could find out more about the people on our Board. So I thought over the next seven weeks, I’d feature a short bio and some additional information that I’ve solicited from our members.

This week’s featured member is Margaret Timuss, our Secretary, one of our newest members: Here’s what she shared with me, to share with you.

My connection with CSLK goes far back to the very first service at the Field House. Before that, I had attended services in Vernon where the amazing Reverend Lloyd Klein (now deceased) inspired me to learn more about Science of Mind. Sue Campbell and I taught together in Rutland and arrived early for that first service in Kelowna. I believe that the congregation was mostly relatives of the Gordons that day. I have been a member ever since. For a long time, Sue, Dr. Deb and I had a Mastermind session each week. At that time, our Spiritual Leader was just “Deb” as she was studying for her leadership role.

When the Centre for Positive Living (as it was then called) had its first Board, I was included and was the President for some time. Taking SOM classes was stimulating, challenging and fun. At the French Cultural Centre location, my husband Don and I provided the music each week. Lugging my electric piano, plus Don’s guitar and heavy amp became our Sunday ritual. About that same time, Dick Weston joined the Centre and became Choir Director with me on the piano. I enjoyed those choir practices every Wednesday; especially when Reverend Barb came to join us. The Christmas concerts were a highlight of the year and we’d perform lots of traditional Christmas songs.

The last few years, I’ve been watching rather than participating in the events at the Centre. I have been a Greeter which is a delightful role when you’re allowed to hug! When the opportunity to be Secretary was put forward, it seemed the right time to become involved once again. I think that Covid has given us all time to look inwards and reflect on our own lives, rather than in relation to our outside activities. My inner voice is ready for a closer connection to my Spiritual Home.

Peace and blessings for this week,

Dr. Deborah
